To all J121 Students, PLEASE READ!

In J121 we learn how to become good, efficient, and credible editors.  Our task is to gatekeep the industry, sustain and maintain its credibility.  We are trusted to keep it from unjustified falsehood, malice and controversies that underestimate the essence of our profession: the pursuit of truth.

In this light I would all like to point you to a recent controversy arising from a certain article published in People Asia magazine.  I would like to point your attention to the article written by Malu Fernandez, and her snide remarks about our OFWs.

Please do take a deep breath before reading the article.  I myself got very infuriated.

If you want to take it a step further, participate in the boycott. =)

Remember, editors being the last line of defense against bigotry like this should always keep in mind the ethics of the journalism profession.

  1. It wasn't the point of her "article," but I really didn't appreciate it that much. It could have figured with any post in some self-centered blog account. It's just sad to see articles like that to be seen in print--and in a glossy magazine at that! Pramis, parang walang pinatunguhan yung kuwento niya!

While I don't see the point of a boycott of any publication at the moment, it's really unfortunate that she looks at fellow Filipinos that way. Samahan kita sa pagpurga ng mga mundo ng mga iyan. Yun nga lang, di ko sila papatayin.

Oo, I may not be a J121 student yet, but I do believe someone in the editorial department of this publication deserves some scolding. Let's take care to see that we (as future newspeople in whatever medium) avoid all that.

Teka, how did you stumble across this if you don't read those publications?

C'mon JM, keep the fire burning. It's encouraging.

  2. Just found this also in Multi, a friend of a friend. Although I know her too.
Kahanga-hanga ginawa niya: She wrote to the editors of Ms. Fernandez!

Read what she wrote. And wow, di pa siya tumigil dun. She also wrote to concerned government agencies like POEA, OWWA, VP De Castro (who's Pres. adviser on OFWs), and ABS-CBN Global (TFC!)

Grabe..what if ganun din gawin natin sa CMC? Haha.
