Ang thoughtless lang ng argument na 'to... [UP Students are Fake Scholars?]

Okay.  Let's make things clear.

1)  The post you're about to read is from a New Era University Student.
2)  He is criticizing the use of the word "Iskolar ng Bayan," in its true context, meaning education is being paid for by the taxpayers.
3)  This is a rambling of a distressed Filipino citizen and NEU student for no particular reason.  Yun naman ang point ng rambling eh, saying things without a point.  Haha.
4)  Dahil rambling ito, wala ring clear rationale, logic, at proposed action.  Talagang total thoughtless, nonsense rambling lang talaga.
5)  Above everything else, no judgment on my part.  Kahit baluktot ang argument.  Kahit may maling grammar.

UP Students: Fake Scholars

•August 4, 2008 • 24 Comments
UP students are not supposed to be called “Iskolar ng Bayan” (Scholar of the Nation). They are “paying scholars”. If you are paying more or less PHP 21, 000, would you really feel that you are indeed a “Iskolar ng Bayan”? Upon enrollment, UP students get in line to pay for their tuition holding wads of cash roughly four times thicker than those from New Era University would pay for. I am sure that we don’t need figures, charts, and statistics to prove the veracity of my claim.

Had it been somebody from PUP, PLM, PNU, TUP, or any state university/college who boasted himself as “Iskolar ng Bayan”, I am inclined to agree. Otherwise, if it’s from UP who claims such, I will maintain the same incredulous revulsion.

Braggart, think twice! Admit it or not, you don’t deserve to be called  “Iskolar ng Bayan”… in the true sense of the word.

[UPDATE] Given, may point siya dahil nagtataasan nga naman ang tuition sa UP, and in the literally contextual sense of the word (anu daw?!), hindi nga apt ang label na ito sa mga bagong pasok na UP students.  But the label goes beyond that mere function naman eh.  Diba, diba?!

Dahil journalist ako, nag-investigate ako at nalaman kong may impetus naman pala ang statement na ito (na originally ay pinost pala as reply sa blog ni Bikoy), and I quote:
I am supposed to pursue my MA on this “state-subsidized private school” (as you call it) but the tuition just caught me off guard that I decided to enroll at PUP instead.
Kaya naman pala...

  7. ay sows bitter lang pala si koya.

(kasi naman, ang pagiging Iskolar ng Bayan ay hindi pribilehiyo, kundi isang responsibilidad. binubuhay tayo, in one way or another, ng mga buwis ng mga magulang natin, at ng mga magulang ng mga kaibigan natin, kapitbahay, saka yung nakasakay mo sa jeep. taga-UP lang ba ang dapat mag-isip na magbalik-loob sa bansa? helloooo. malamang hindi)

    (ayan, na-emo tuloy ako, haha)

  8. Sourgraping naman ang drama niya. Oh well, I think he used the "Iskolar ng Bayan" in a very literal context.

  18. 1.) Bitterness reveals the motive to insult. Unfortunately his futile attempt bared the very reason he could not (and should not) be admitted in UP.

He said he was "caught off guard" from the fees, but was he even sure he would pass the MA requirements/entrance exam in the first place?

With this kind of entry masking his poorly-clad logic in particular? I don't think so.

2.) Even without trying to be university-centric as I know at least two smart UP Journ friends who were transferees from ERA to avail the title as "iskolar ng bayan," I never thought that stupidity and incorrigible irrationality could come in the same package until I read his entry.

Plus, is this guy even aware that there are "exchange students" from ERA who sit-in among us every sem---numbing themselves dry of the quality of education that they may or may not survive?

It's a shame, he was not qualified in both opportunities.

3.) I would have felt sorry for him (and would even give him tips next time) if he was just willing to accept that he can't be an "iskolar ng bayan", but I didn't expect he would attack the very "phrase" itself to suit his bitterness.

4.) Why am I even wasting my time trying to rationalize someone's "ramblings" whose mind is too narrow to understand what we are saying here anyway?

    5.) Leche.

  19. Sorry to burst your bubble, but if I may something favorable to the "rambler", I don't think that it is fair to call him "bitter" or "sourgrape" or whatever simply because he's from NEU.

re topic: He took the label literally. He might or might not be thinking straight that time, but the best thing we can do is to discuss this topic in a way that a "iskolar" should do.

    just my 2-peso isaw

    ReplyDelete
  20. C'mon.

Are we to take it through chance that "he might or might not be thinking straight that time"? Are we to let him substitute the rules of logic just to accomodate what little he has to show his?

Im sorry but Im afraid this is my way to discuss it. There is no monopoly of style as to how a scholar should aptly discuss the topic anyway.

I did not call him bitter based solely on what school he attended.

And oh, by the way, isaw costs P3 pesos na. :) hehe

    Peace dude. :)

  21. Desi, kung i-analyze naman kasi yung comment niya, in a way, may point naman sya eh (na sinabi ko nga sa taas). Pero he fell into a trap of logic rin eh, which is overgeneralization and oversimplification. So hindi mo talaga ma-me-make-sense yung argument nya, more so na nilagay niya 'yang response na yan sa comments sa blog niya. Diba? May motivation behind it talaga eh...

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't know what's with this guy. He's apparently going around blogs of UP people copy-posting (yes, I didn't misspell that) the same lines of preposterous rambling. He just did so in my blog.

(Ano daw?! :P)

  23. pinabasa to sakin ni shari kahapon. and what can i say. ang literal nya magisip. tsk tsk.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, ang akin lang, baka tayo naman ang mahulog sa trap ng, well, shall I say "this UP mentality" - self-aggrandizing, chest-thumping messianic complex (my own gripe against other ka-isko hehe). Yes, he might be intentionally dissing Peyups and the label iskolar, but we won't be doing any justice to the discussion if we join him in school-bashing and ego-tripping contest :D

Yun lang naman. 3 pesos pala isaw hehe

  25. Wow... nahihiya naman mga taga-TUP sayo.

  27. waz. yun lang masasabi ko.

btw, may nagreact ba sa blog post nya mismo?

  28. hirap maging UP. period.
    pahabol: pero masaya. :D

well, on second thought, he has a grain of point. (yaks, maling gamit ng idioms). isn't that what a lot of our schoolmates have been contesting even during the proposal to raise fees?

although in this case, it's the way he says it. Kala niya sineswerte siya at nakakaangat siya. Hmm. Woot.

  30. Hi JM! i'd rather focus on doing something which would make me a true and deserving "ISKOLAR ng BAYAN" than waste my energy deciphering the message and intention. =) happy centennial!
